A New Chance at Life

A New Chance at Life

When baby Victoria was born with serious heart problems, doctors planned a series of three corrective surgeries. Yet her condition declined, and she needed to be resuscitated twice. A donor heart was her best hope. At just two months old, Victoria received a new heart and a new chance at life.

San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House kept Victoria’s family close when it mattered most. A private room and three meals daily gave Victoria’s family the stability to focus on their baby, instead of worrying about how to manage an extended time away from home. Mom Alondra recalls,

I was able to stay close to my daughter and take a break from the hospital setting. It was so reassuring to know that I could get back to the hospital when anything happened.

As Victoria recovered, Grandma came to help with big brother, Abraham, giving Dad Nicolas the chance to travel back to San Bernardino County to work during the week. The family is back home now: Victoria is doing well and full of smiles like her brother.

Alondra and Nicolas never expected to be on this journey, but they are immensely grateful for the support of San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House.
