She’s been the heart behind the birthday wishes, inscribing greeting cards with her neat handwriting. Now she’s retiring after an incredible 18 years with our Ronald McDonald House. Ocean Beach resident Timmie Baird began volunteering as a way to say thanks for the care her grand-nephew received after his cancer diagnosis.
Timmie was hands-on at the original House, gardening, scrubbing floors, making cookies and getting to know families. In recent years, she’s helped behind the scenes with office tasks and our favorite—writing birthday cards for Ronald McDonald House volunteers.
This spring, Timmie retired from volunteering to attend to family needs. “People need the Ronald McDonald House for all sorts of health circumstances,” Timmie observes. “It’s so open and accepting of people from all backgrounds, family sizes, and financial situations.”
