Communications Intern
The Communications Intern is an entry-level position supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego (“RMHC-SD”) fundraisers and other activities. The ideal candidate possesses high attention to detail and a strong sense of personal accountability. This paid internship invites applicants with a strong command of the English language, keen marketing insight and excellent customer service. The Intern is expected to contribute impactfully given his/her existing knowledge, skills, and to complete the duties and functions as outlined below.-
This is a part-time, short-term position beginning January 2021 through 4/30/2021. $18/hour. Employee is expected to work on-site at RMHC-SD for duration of assignment. This position offers flexible hours if approved by the supervisor in advance with occasional overtime work.
Essential Functions:
- Provide high-level copy editing for legal documents, website, and other external communications
- Prepare work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials
- Plan concept by studying relevant information and materials
- Draft language for promotional materials
- Research and draft consumer product descriptions
- Assist in implementation of a Spanish language marketing campaign
- Customer service support via phone, in person, email and other forms of online communication
- Data entry
- Prepare outgoing letters using mail merge, folding envelopes, and operating printer and postage meter
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree or currently enrolled in a 4-year college or university, with studies in English, Marketing, or a relevant field.
- Proficiency with the following programs:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Word
- Strong command of the English language
- Spanish fluency preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and balance multiple priorities and assignments to meet deadlines

Graphic Designer
The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating design solutions in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego (“RMHC-SD”) fundraisers and for other projects as assigned. The ideal candidate is an independent, self-starter who can quickly acclimate to job demands and build upon past successes.
This is a part-time, short-term position beginning January 2021 through 4/30/2021. $25/hour. Employee is expected to work on-site at RMHC-SD for duration of assignment. All work must be completed and stored on company-provided PC and network.
Essential Functions:
- Create artwork for advertising campaigns, including digital, outdoor, and print media
- Create logo designs
- Prepares work to be accomplished by gathering information and materials
- Plans concept by studying relevant information and materials
- Format images to publisher specifications, such as size, resolution, naming conventions, etc.
- Illustrates concept by designing rough layout of art and copy regarding arrangement, size, type size and style, and related aesthetic concepts
- Obtains approval of concept by submitting rough layout for approval
- Completes projects by coordinating details with advertising and media partners, printers, web designer, etc., such as deadlines, packaging materials, and file submission
- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer’s instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; and evaluating new equipment
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree. Specialty in fine arts, design, or related field is a plus.
- Proficient with desktop publishing tools, with expertise in each of the following Adobe Creative Cloud programs:
- Illustrator
- InDesign
- Photoshop
- Demonstrated work experience on regional or national advertising campaigns.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
- Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and balance multiple priorities and assignments to meet deadlines.
