Day of Joy/Día de Alegría launched in 2013 with a dream to build a bridge between leading Latinas in the San Diego community and the Hispanic families served by San Diego’s Ronald McDonald House. This exclusive event relies on the generosity and leadership of Ambassador Hosts to invite ladies from both sides of the border to join together in raising vital funds in support of families caring for a hospitalized child. Some of this year’s fantastic Ambassadors are pictured above.
For the last seven years, our Ambassadors have taken fun and generosity to a new level. On May 7, Co-Chairs Monica Fimbres and Elisa Jaime welcomed over 200 Latinas y Amigas to the Westgate Hotel for a fabulous luncheon featuring live music, fine cuisine and a Bubbly Bar by Celebrity Cruises. Guests “shopped for a purpose” through an eclectic silent auction, spirited live auction, and various other donation opportunities to benefit families in need at our House.
Together, the Latinas y Amigas at Day of Joy/Día de Alegría 2019 raised over $90,000 and helped fund more than 500 cost-free nights for weary moms, dads, and grandparents as they fight for the recovery of their hospitalized child. Each year, our House serves approximately 14,000 families of which 46 percent represent Hispanic communities. With the support of this incredible group of leading Latinas, these families will be able to count on lodging, meals, schooling and so much more when it truly matters most.
