Eleven-year-old Lucas Thomas is dedicated to both athletics and community causes. Last year, he was the top fundraiser in RAM Racing’s Hot Chocolate Run to benefit Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. He was all set to do it again in 2017, but a baseball injury took him “out of the running” just two weeks before this year’s race. Lucas had fractured his kneecap and completely tore his ACL after a collision with another player.
Lucas wouldn’t let his lack of mobility get in the way of his commitment to help the Ronald McDonald House. He asked his family if they could find a wheelchair so he could “push himself,” still determined to do it all on his own. He competed in the 5k race and raised an outstanding $800 to help keep families close to their hospitalized kids. Congratulations and thank you, Lucas! Best wishes for speedy healing.
