ROMP attendees are still basking in the good feelings of ROMP: Aloha, our gala celebrating the spirit of ‘ohana, “family.” More than 350 guests enjoyed an evening of island-themed delights at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar in September. The event included the grand prize drawing of the Hoehn Motors Mercedes-Benz Raffle. Supporters of the ROMP and the raffle raised more than $800,000 in net proceeds that can now be applied directly to family care.
Leadership
Honorary Chairs Susan & Scott Salka were instrumental in the evening’s success. Susan is president and CEO of AMN Healthcare Services, which was the Title Sponsor of ROMP: Aloha! The Salkas’ warm hospitality and passion for our cause sparked great enthusiasm and remarkable giving throughout the evening, especially during the “Fund-A-Family” at the end of the live auction. The returning ROMP Executive Committee of Carrie Campbell, Leslie Mannes and Jamie Straza provided inspiration, strategic direction and fundraising support for the event.
Leading Donors
The evening included generous donations from Honorary Chairs Susan and Scott Salka, as well as record-breaking auctions and Fund-A-Family donations. Matching gifts totaling nearly $130,000 were generously contributed by the Miyahiras of HME, as well as A-1 Self Storage, The Bob Baker Foundation, Rebecca & Ralph Henderson representing the Four 4 Four Foundation, CHASE Bank and Nancy Stanley.
‘Ohana (Family) at ROMP: Aloha!
Three years ago, healthy six-year-old Kupono Kahapea contracted a virus that damaged his heart. His family left Hawaii and flew to San Diego for life-saving care, and ultimately, a heart transplant. His parents, Lani and Kalei, spoke at the ROMP.
“We have a saying,
‘Life takes us to unexpected places, love brings us home.’
Our home for fourteen months was the Ronald McDonald House, and we definitely experienced love there! The great team of staff and volunteers always made us feel at home. Mahalo Nui Loa, thank you very much!”
